Watercolor Painting | Broken yet Beautiful. What a gift we have been given, to be a light in a broken world, to surrender to love and compassion, to embrace the opportunity we have been given to choose to lay down our lives for our neighbors when it both does not suit us and is downright uncomfortable, to selflessly put others first for their benefit and not our own, and to surrender to… Read More

Watercolor Painting | Hidden I am drawn repeatedly to paint women peering through secret gardens, as if they are inviting me to enter their sacred sanctuaries where suffering, striving, competition, and inequality no longer exist. They live there, not because of something they have done, but simply because they “are.” In this haven of light, where love is the water of life, all are welcome and none are denied.

Mixed media painting of whimsical girl in garden of roses.

No matter how deep you fall, or to what depths you dive, I am there. I descended to the depths to be with you, but I didn’t stay there. On the third day, I rose and took you with me.

This morning I wish you freedom and life. May your day reveal the sweet surprise of unfettered kindness as you walk in love with all you meet.

Recently, I lay awake in bed, convicted of a thought which would not release me to sleep. In the darkness of my bedroom, I slipped on a pair of headphones and began to listen to the song, Join with the Angels, by Planet Shakers. As the music played, I embraced the thought, and it embraced me. These words etched into my heart and inspired the painting, which I’ve titled, Refiner’s Fire. Maybe… Read More

Last night, I became God’s greatest cheerleader. I know that sounds cheesy, but if you’d been watching me in my backyard, you’d understand the statement, and probably have a good laugh at my expense. Clouds hung heavy in the sky. snuffing out the stars and moon in a blanket of greyness.  Two of my children bounced on our trampoline, their eyes glued to the East as if their attention would convince the moon to show. Another one of my children… Read More

Watercolor Window and Roses “One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our window today.” ~ Dale Carnegie Reference Photo Inspiration : Larissa O’Duffy: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lariod/3551184572

This is the good news… Christ died once and for ALL because of his great love. “It is finished!”

Proverbs 27:9

I am thankful for all of my wonderful friends. They are genuine, honest, intelligent, and gracious… Sweet incense indeed!

You are Beloved You are loved You are a flower among thorns A precious blossom Cradled in the hands of a God who cares. ~ Janna Vanderveen

My mission is to discern, awaken, and inspire truth in myself and others.  “May my tongue be the pen of a skillful writer, my pen be the tongue of a masterful orator, and my words be apples of gold in settings of silver.” ~ Janna Vanderveen

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? Have you given the mirror power to determine your self-worth? Who or what is your mirror? Who or what holds the measuring stick that determines your self-worth? Is it a person? Or do you measure your worth based on your wealth, beauty, fame, body image, prestige, influence, service, works, success, friends, family, or accolades? Fear hides authenticity.  It creates a very convincing lie which says we must appear or… Read More
