Watercolor Painting | Pretty Posies Mankind is like a garden of blossoming wild flowers, beautiful as a whole, yet stunning with its unique parts and individual differences. May we continually see the beauty created by our differences and love with open arms. My watercolor study of Danielle Donaldson’s art.

Mixed Media | Hallowed Night   When the rocks cry out And animals sing They boast of love And peaceful things. Each hallowed night With reverent tone They linger in the embrace Of their Holy Unknown. This 16″ x 20″ painting was completed using Golden acrylics, FW inks, a variety of ephemera, chalk pastels, Derwent Inktense pencils, Caran D’ache watercolor crayons, and Luminance Pencils.

Watercolor Girl | Patriot’s Heart This is the second, in a series of three watercolor thank-you cards, featuring my whimsical princess with her bunny.  I love painting sunsets and valleys reflecting the beauty of life all around.  I used a combination of artist grade MaimeriBlu and professional grade Winsor Newton watercolor paints on this 5×7 card.

Watercolor Girl | Patriot’s Heart This is the first, in a series of three watercolor thank-you cards, featuring my whimsical princess with her bunny.  I love how it turned out. I used a combination of artist grade MaimeriBlu and professional grade Winsor Newton watercolor paints on this 5×7 cards.

Watercolor Painting | Diving Deep No matter how deep you fall, or to what depths you dive, I am there. I descended to the depths to be with you, but I didn’t stay there. On the third day, I rose and took you with me.

Watercolor Painting | The Princess and the Pea I completed this 9″ x 13″ watercolor illustration on 140 lb. watercolor paper using Winsor Newton and Maimeri Blu watercolor paints.

Watercolor Painting | Nomad She wanders alone, Exploring a world not her own, Seeking someone to love, And a place to call home.

Mixed Media | Fantasy Creatures Sometimes  I splash inks, watercolors, and acrylics onto paper just to see what happens. Within the chaos an image usually forms, and in this case, I found fan adorable little fantasy creature. What is she? A who’s it, or what’s that, or whatchamacallit? You tell me. Regardless, I fell in love with her flower filled hair and tail puff, her tiny fairy wings, and her big eyes.

Mixed Media Painting | Girl in Moonlight I completed this 12 1/2″ by 19 1/2″ painting of “A girl in moonlight” using watercolor paints for her face, a variety of inks and watercolor crayons for her hair, modeling paste over ephemera to create textured clothing, and oil crayons over a layered background to create a dreamy sky. I love how she turned out.

Watercolor Painting | Girl Holding Lantern at Night I completed a second watercolor painting for a friend, in my series, “Be Thou My Vision.” I envisioned a girl holding a lantern, which cast light to dispel the shadows. Be thou my vision, Thy presence my light. Guide me through sunshine, And the darkest of night.

Watercolor Painting | Visions Unseen  Be though my vision When I cannot see. Whether waking or sleeping Reveal yourself to me. (Click on thumbnail for full-resolution image)

Watercolor Painting | Tulips in Recycled Glass Vase Like the tulip which lifts its head in silence, Revealing blossoms the color of crimson, Your beauty also shines forth, Revealing your value and worth.

Watercolor Painting | Peace amidst Chaos I took some time to paint this weekend, amidst the stress that broken bones and too much time spent in an emergency room creates.  After things settled, I contemplated the beauty of the setting sun, the majesty of towering mountains, and my thankfulness for the life we have. This painting is a reflection of that moment.

Watercolor Painting | Pink Fairy Scribbles and scratches. I’ve reopened my children’s books and am editing like crazy…always editing it seems. For me, taking a short break from writing often means doing something else creative, like watercolor painting. The activity seems to feed the ideas that swirl though my mind. This girl is scribbled and scratched, almost as an afterthought, but within her there is light, love, and a little magic. Stories,… Read More

Watercolor | You are not Alone Truth is the sorrow which lingers in my tears. Love is the compassion Which erases all your fears. You are not alone. You are not forgotten. (Click on thumbnail for full-resolution image)

Mixed Media Card | So Thoughtful It’s spring break, the kids are home from school, and writing is NOT happening. I should be throwing myself into book 2, but have decided to instead show myself grace by giving myself permission to do a few other creative things, like catching up on thank you notes. I followed a Danielle Donaldson tutorial to create this card, which combined my creative hobby loves – watercolor painting, sewing, and mixed media layering. It was… Read More

Here’s to hoping that the last six chapters of my first novel fly by with ease. (Click on… Read More
