Mixed Media Painting | Bokeh Girl I almost…almost threw away this painting. It’s ugly stage lasted way too long, and I thought it was not salvageable, especially since I was trying out some new art supplies to go along with an art course, She blooms in Ink, by Tamara Laporte. Refusing to give in, I doggedly persisted. I have to admit, I like how she finally turned out. For this painting, I… Read More

Watercolor Painting | Impressionistic Girl I recently completed a Fancy Lassies art class by Kate Thompson. This is my first attempt at painting a fancy lassies whimsical girl. It was fun to lay down paint in an impressionistic style.

Watercolor Painting | Diving Deep No matter how deep you fall, or to what depths you dive, I am there. I descended to the depths to be with you, but I didn’t stay there. On the third day, I rose and took you with me.

Watercolor Painting | Waning Sun Even when the sun wanes, You are not alone, For in darkness, My love shines brightest for you.

Mixed Media Painting | Girl in Moonlight I completed this 12 1/2″ by 19 1/2″ painting of “A girl in moonlight” using watercolor paints for her face, a variety of inks and watercolor crayons for her hair, modeling paste over ephemera to create textured clothing, and oil crayons over a layered background to create a dreamy sky. I love how she turned out.

Watercolor Painting | Visions Unseen  Be though my vision When I cannot see. Whether waking or sleeping Reveal yourself to me. (Click on thumbnail for full-resolution image)

Watercolor Painting | Blue-haired whimsical Girl I quickly watercolor painted this whimsical girl on a bus ride home from my son’s Mackinaw Island class trip. It was a challenging experiment, considering the frequent sway and bump of the road. I loaded my seat with my carry on luggage, made a makeshift table, balanced my watercolor paints, and sketched fast. Using an Elegant Writer and a little water, I shaded her face, then colored in her features with an inexpensive travel… Read More

Watercolor Painting | Loretta Grayson Inspired Stained Glass Tree My son Gabriel came home from middle school last week with an art assignment; to paint a Loretta Grayson style color theory tree. The project seemed a little daunting, so I offered to do one alongside him. Together we looked up Loretta Grayson’s web page and discovered that she had an on-line tutorial explaining how to complete this project. We’d been told to use water medium paints for our… Read More

Watercolor and Mixed Media Portrait | Wild Love “Wild love dares to lose, seeks to refind, rethinks what was lost, and embraces transformation.” (Click on thumbnail for full-resolution image)

Watercolor and Mixed Media Painting | Woman in Polka Dot Dress For Christmas this year, I received a lovely tutorial by Jane Davenport from my wonderful in-laws, on figure drawing.  After watching several of her classes, I’ve determined that it will probably take some time to master the human shape. However, it looks like a fun process. Here is my first watercolor and mixed media painting (thank you card) from Jane Davenport’s I Heart Drawing class. Woman in… Read More

Watercolor of Open Window at Night with Two Moons She rose from her bed, Cobwebs in her head, And studied the light in her room. Through windows it played Pale fingers that splayed Dispelling the darkness and gloom. Like a fairy it called And she followed, enthralled Ensnared by its enticing tune She peered through her blinds Astonished to find Bright stars and the face of two moons. Two moons glowing pale As if hung on a scale… Read More

There is always light in darkness and beauty in imperfection. The key is perception…. I almost didn’t complete this watercolor painting.  Almost. I was tempted to rip it apart midway, but I had a hard time wedging it out of my perfect paper stretcher. So instead, I walked away. I came back, begrudgingly, thirty minutes later, and decided to give it one more chance. The dark mood of the painting measured my own. But I also… Read More

Watercolor Window and Roses “One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our window today.” ~ Dale Carnegie (Click on thumbnail for high-resolution image) Reference Photo Inspiration : Larissa O’Duffy: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lariod/3551184572
